Travel between China and Europe continues to lag behind other long-haul markets and is not expected to fully recover until 2026, according to the latest insights from the European Travel Commission (ETC) and Travel Economics.
Travel between China and Europe continues to lag behind other long-haul markets and is not expected to fully recover until 2026, according to the latest insights from the European Travel Commission (ETC) and Travel Economics.
Travel between the two continents is expected to reach 60 to 70 percent of pre-epidemic levels by 2023, with forward data on bookings showing that "Chinese travelers continue to favor domestic travel."
In contrast, travel from the U.S. to Europe is expected to exceed 80 percent of 2019 levels this year, before fully returning to pre-pandemic levels in 2024.
In recent months, a number of new routes have been announced between Europe and the U.S., including the addition of four Nordic Atlantic routes from Gatwick Airport (Gatwick), as well as JetBlue's addition of daytime routes between New York's JFK Airport (JFK) and London's Heathrow Airport (Heathrow).
